How is Uncommon Sports Group Funded?

"This sounds too good to be true." We hear this a lot. When people are first introduced to Uncommon Sports Group, it can be hard to understand how we're able to offer the kind of opportunities that we make available to our community.
This is especially true when those opportunities are at little to no cost to our participants. The good news is, it's not too good to be true. Keep reading to find out more about how we do what we do.
How It Works...
Uncommon Sports Group is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, dedicated to building and supporting a Christ-centered community within college and professional sports. We work to accomplish this through our ministry and its programs and opportunities. But, how do we support our academies, trips, conferences, and more? We're glad you asked.

We have a lot to be thankful for. Our organization is funded by the generosity of individuals working in college and pro sports. We receive donations of used and excess team gear and apparel through our Clean Out for a Cause® program. But what happens next?

There are several outlets for these donations:

The majority of these items are monetized. Selling these donations allows us to fund our USG Academy program and its Impact Weekend trips, international mission trips, scholarship programs, domestic service projects, and professional development opportunities.

Some donations are provided to our domestic and international Service and Relief Partners for responsible distribution.

A small percentage of these donations are distributed to apparel recyclers to support their reuse and circularity.​
Why Monetization?
Simply put, we provide the operational “work” needed to ensure resources can get where they need to be with the least amount of work involved for our donors and recipients. It can be difficult for organizations, schools, teams, etc. who do not have available warehouse space or an operations team to help organize and utilize donated gear and apparel.
By taking on the space, warehousing, and selling costs, Uncommon Sports Group's eCommerce Operation can support our partner programs and non-profit activity, freeing valuable time and resources for our benefactors. By removing the difficult steps, we provide valuable funds to participants, organizations, and projects that need it, without their need for operational overhead.
Shop, Save, & Support
We sell the donated items in two online stores. On eBay through our Authentic Athletic Apparel store, and our very own eCommerce website, Locker Room Direct. By purchasing items through our eCommerce stores, you are partnering with us to help provide funding for a wide array of impactful programs, domestically and across the world.
In our stores, you will find team-issued, name-brand, new, and used athletic apparel and gear. We sell these items at great prices and use 100% of the proceeds to support the work and programs of Uncommon Sports Group. How cool is that?
